Blunt campaign committee reports strong contributions

Missourians for Matt Blunt released its second quarter fundraising report on Thursday, showing contributions in excess of $847k between April and June 2005. After disbursements, the committee still had more than $750k cash-on-hand. By comparison, Gov. Carnahan reported $311,438 cash-on-hand for the same report in 1993; Gov. Holden reported $48,818 in the second quarter of 2001.

Gov. Blunt inherited a state government in total disarray, and has had to make many difficult decisions in order to get Missouri back on the right track. Gov. Blunt has been criticized continuously by Democrats since he took office, but he has kept his promises to the people of Missouri: no new taxes, a balanced budget, no withholdings from our public schools, meaningful litigation and workers' compensation reform. Democrats can indulge in childish name-calling and partisan rhetoric to their hearts' content, but in the end they may simply be whistling past the graveyard.
